The resolution sets March 15, 2026, as the date of the next election, which will select deputies for the next legislature and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 tenure.
According to the resolution, the next NA’s first session must convene no later than 60 days after the election date, and the newly-elected People’s Councils must hold their inaugural sessions within 45 days.
NA Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Thanh said that shortening the timeline is necessary to narrow the gap between the 14th National Party Congress, scheduled for early 2026, and the first sessions of the new-term National Assembly and People’s Councils. The goal is to ensure consistency, stability, and continuity in the operation of Party, State, and Government agencies, and other organizations.
