The National Assembly Tuesday discussed an anti-money laundering bill, showing Vietnam’s determination to fight corruption and its respect for international commitment. Lawmakers said that Vietnam is at risks of money laundering as most transactions in the country are done in cash. Cao Sy Kiem, a deputy from Thai Binh province comments:"Vietnam is deeply integrating in the world, so impacts, both positive and negative, on its economy are greater. Without an anti-money laundering law, Vietnam will be a destination for money launderers."
National Assembly deputies also clarified the relationship between terrorism crimes, terrorism sponsorship and money laundering. The majority of lawmakers ruled out the possibility of incorporating “terrorism sponsorship” and “anti-money laundering” into law, saying Vietnam will build a separate law on anti-terrorism.
