National Cai Luong Festival celebrates folk opera of southern region
(VOVWORLD) -1,200 artists from 30 art troupes across the country are competing at the 2024 National Cai Luong Festival, which opened on Friday evening in the southern city of Can Tho.

The festival is part of efforts to preserve the traditional Vietnamese art form, which originated in the southern region of Vietnam in the early 20th century.
Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said this is an opportunity to honor the beauty and appeal of Cai Luong theater and for fans and tourists from near and far to admire the artists and their plays.
“The 2024 National Cai Luong Festival will run until November 15. This continuous activity offers many attractive and interesting programs in a large and very uplifting gathering. We hope and recommend that the arts council, including reputable people with specialized tasks in Cai Luong theater arts, work enthusiastically and impartially to select valuable works, outstanding groups and individuals to encourage and develop this folk genre,” An said.
