NATO to discuss Ukraine peace plan
(VOVWORLD) -NATO foreign ministers met in Brussels to discuss a US-proposed peace plan for Ukraine, as the alliance seeks to reinforce unity and prepare for its 2026 summit in Turkey.
The proposal from the US includes limiting NATO’s expansion, capping the size of Ukraine’s armed forces, and recognizing Russian territorial interests.
European and Ukrainian officials have been working to revise the document, insisting that Ukraine’s sovereignty, its right to self-defense, and its future NATO membership must be safeguarded.
The Chair of NATO’s Military Committee said the meeting reviewed ongoing military assistance for Ukraine at a time when Ukrainian officials are calling for additional air-defense systems. He underscored the importance of Ukraine’s Priority Universal Requirements List in guiding weapons procurement.
The Brussels meeting is expected to lay the groundwork for a summit that will address long-term deterrence, defense investment, and the alliance’s future relationship with Ukraine.
