Russia, Ukraine express cautious optimism about ending their conflict
(VOVWORLD) - Russia and Ukraine are definitely not far from peace, said Russian Presidential Assistant Yuri Ushakov after a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US special envoy Steve Witkoff at the Kremlin on Tuesday.
Ushakov said the discussions covered every element of the US peace plan for Ukraine. He said Russia had reviewed the 27-point plan and did not make any edits to the text nor discuss it with the US in advance. Russia later received four additional documents, all of which were examined during Tuesday’s meeting between President Putin and Mr. Whitkoff.
Ushakov described the talks as "constructive and useful", saying both sides had the opportunity to thoroughly discuss the prospects for further cooperation toward a lasting peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis. He said Russia and the US have no further disagreements remaining on how to resolve the conflict, but the two sides still have a lot of work to do. Contacts between the two countries will continue in the coming period in an effort to reach a sustainable, long-term solution.
