New EP affirms support for Ukraine

(VOVWORLD) - The new European Parliament overwhelmingly passed a resolution reaffirming its support for Ukraine at a meeting on Wednesday in Strasbourg city, France.

With 495 votes in favor, 37 against, and 47 abstentions, the EP committed to offering Ukraine political, economic, and military assistance. So far, the European Union and its members have provided Ukraine with 95 billion Euros, one third of which is military aid.

The resolution stated the recent visit to Russia by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who holds the rotating presidency of the European Council, was a violation of the EU’s treaties and external policies.

It said violating the rules will result in a number of consequences for Hungary, including protest against Hungary's activities during its rotating presidency.
