Party leader and President chairs anti-corruption meeting

(VOVWORLD) -Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong on Wednesday chaired the 17th session of the Central Steering Committee on Corruption Prevention and Control to review last year’s performance and set out key tasks for this year.

Mr. Trong said since the beginning of the 12th National Party Congress’s tenure and 2019, anti-corruption work has made strong progress with corruption curbed and on the decline.

Party General Secretary and President Trong called for higher determination and more aggressive and effective measures to fight corruption in 2020. He said: “In 2020, there will be many major events of the country, particularly the party congresses towards the 13th National Party Congress. So more efforts should be made in corruption prevention and control. Congresses should be well organized to better anti-corruption work. Once corruption is prevented and good personnel are chosen, the congresses will be successful. Achievements of the year 2019 should be promoted unceasingly.”

Mr. Trong said the focus of the work ahead is to continue perfecting institutions for socio-economic management and anti-corruption efforts, and to research and propose major orientations for corruption prevention and combat in draft documents of the 13th National Party Congress.

He urged the steering committee to press on with the inspection and auditing of sensitive fields of public concern, promptly detect and punish officials and Party members violating the law, and intensify the inspection of anti-corruption performance by top position holders in Party committees, Party organizations and administrations at all levels.
