The 4^th plenum of the current Party’s Central Committee opened in Hanoi on Monday to discuss Party building and infrastructure development to for the next ten years. During the 5-day meeting, the delegates will elect new members to the Inspection Committee and review the performance of the Political Bureau. In his address, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong outlined orientations of Vietnam’s socio economic development strategy through 2020 including the fine-tuning of Vietnam’s socialist oriented market economy, human resource and infrastructure development. Mr. Trong stressed the need for rapid and sustainable economic development and improved quality, productivity and competitiveness. He said the party leadership plays a decisive role in ensuring all victories of the Vietnamese revolution and party building is a vital task for the Party and the regime. "The Political Bureau has proposed to the Party’s Central Committee three things that urgently need to be done to strengthen trust among Party members and the public. First, prevent any degradation of the political stance, morality or lifestyle of Party members, especially leaders and managers at all levels. Second, strengthen the capacity of leaders and managers, especially those at the central level to meet the demands of industrialization, modernization and international integration. Third, clarify the responsibility and authority of leaders and the relation between Party committees and administrative authorities at all levels", the Party leader said.
