PM meets foreign leaders on sidelines of extended BRICS Summit

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with multiple foreign leaders on the sidelines of the extended BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, on Thursday.

While meeting with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, Prime Minister Chinh said Vietnam treasures its traditional friendship and comprehensive partnership with Venezuela.

The two leaders agreed to promote bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, investment, agriculture, oil, gas, and telecommunications and considered the possibility of expanding cooperation into new areas. They agreed to strengthen cultural exchanges between their youth and organize activities to commemorate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Meeting with President of Belarus Aleksander Lukashenko, Prime Minister Chinh underlined the complementary nature of the two economies, and urged greater economic and trade cooperation between them. President Lukashenko proposed closer collaboration in automobile production, investment, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Prime Minister Chinh and Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed expanding cooperation into oil and gas, education and training, cultural exchanges, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, and opening direct flights between the two countries. President Mirziyoyev said Vietnam is a reliable partner of Uzbekistan in Asia and he hopes Vietnam will be a bridge for Uzbekistan’s cooperation with ASEAN.

Prime Minister Chinh also met with leaders from South Africa, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Iran, and the Republic of Congo, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and with the Foreign Ministers of Indonesia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Cuba.
