(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered an immediate end to the practice of “fishing at all costs,” calling for the building of a culture of responsible, traceable, and sustainable fishing that safeguards both the nation’s dignity and the people’s long-term interests.

Chairing a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday on combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Vietnam’s determination to eradicate IUU violations and have the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning lifted within this year.
He urged maximum efforts during the current peak month of anti-IUU action, stressing that “every day must be treated as a peak day of the campaign.”
The Prime Minister warned that leaders of ministries, sectors, and localities would bear direct responsibility before the Government if violations recur or progress in lifting the yellow card stalls.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, from November 4-11, ministries, agencies, and coastal localities and have coordinated to implement stronger measures, resulting in positive progress.
The number of unlicensed or ineligible fishing vessels has declined, while more boats have updated ownership data in the national database system.
