PM proposes ideas for ASEAN to successfully enter smart era
(VOVWORLD) - ASEAN needs to enter the smart era with an ambitious mindset, using science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as new driving forces to create breakthroughs for regional growth, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said at a discussion session within the framework of the 55th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland on Wednesday.

Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim, Chief Adviser (head of the interim government) of Bangladesh Muhammad Yunus, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Myanmar Julie Bishop and Non-Executive Independent Chair of the Board of Directors of Mastercard Merit Janow also joined the discussion “ASEAN: Connecting to reach out,” moderated by President of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Borge Brende.
PM Chinh emphasized that in the smart era, a successful ASEAN needs to ensure six elements. In terms of politics and security, it must be peaceful and stable, with the absence of war. Economically, it must develop quickly and sustainably. Culturally, it is necessary for ASEAN to promote unity in diversity, both developing its identity and preserving the identity of each member. Environmentally, ASEAN must ensure sustainable exploitation and use and protection of the environment for future generations. In terms of society, it needs to ensure social progress and equity and inclusive development, leaving no one behind.
Regarding the Myanmar issue, PM Chinh expressed his firm belief that with solidarity and unity for their common goals, ASEAN will contribute to helping bring peace, stability and happiness back to the Myanmar people soon.
The discussion was the last activity of the Vietnamese PM at the 55th WEF annual meeting.
