(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the United States and the Republic of Korea are both comprehensive strategic partners of Vietnam, in which science, technology, and innovation are major areas of cooperation.

PM Chinh met in Hanoi on Wednesday with Karthik Rammohan, Vice President of Lam Research Group (USA) and representatives of Seojin Company (Republic of Korea), which are jointly manufacturing semiconductor chips in Vietnam.
The PM said that amid the shifting of global FDI, Vietnam wishes to attract high-quality investment capital, especially leading enterprises such as Lam Research, in high tech and semiconductor industry.
He affirmed that Vietnam welcomes and encourages investors with appropriate mechanisms, policies and specific incentives according to the provisions of law, as well as leveraging the construction of uniform, modern infrastructure. He added Vietnam is training and developing 50,000-100,000 engineers for the semiconductor industry by 2030, promptly meeting the human resource needs of businesses.
The Prime Minister said he hopes that the two companies, in addition to investment and production, focus on research and development (R&D), technology transfer, and semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam.
Lam Research, headquartered in California, USA, is one of the world's leading suppliers of semiconductor chip manufacturing tools. Its 2022 revenue is 19 billion USD. As of March last year, Lam Research had more than 18,700 employees.
