PM urges continued modernization of defense industry

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Wednesday stressed the need to continue modernizing the defense industry and developing dual-use products for both defense and civilian purposes as he chaired a meeting with the Ministry of National Defense on military and defense tasks for 2026.

Prime Minister Chinh said that amid the complex and unpredictable global situation, the military must ensure the preservation of national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, including sovereignty over land, sea, islands, airspace, and cyberspace.

He suggested that next year, the entire military focus on building a revolutionary, regular, elite, and modern army, flexibly and effectively expedite defense diplomacy activities and promote the principle of self-reliance and self-strength in accomplishing defense industry tasks, logistics, and technical work.

The PM called for greater efforts to effectively implement the Politburo’s Resolution 57 and the Resolutions of the Government and the Central Military Commission on the development of science and technology and the defense industry. He stressed the need to mobilize economic sectors, including the private sector, to participate in the development of the national defense industry, especially in fundamental and core technologies.

Prime Minister Chinh expressed confidence that the armed forces will continue to be pioneers and leaders in developing new technologies, equipment, and weapons to serve the defense of the Fatherland.
