President Biden says antisemitism has no place in America

(VOVWORLD) - During his keynote address on Tuesday at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum’s annual Days of Remembrance ceremony, President Joe Biden decried a “ferocious surge” of antisemitism in the US.

Biden condemned the sharp increase in antisemitism triggered by the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza and fed by a wave of anti-Jewish protests on college campuses.

“In America, we respect and protect the fundamental right to free speech, to debate disagree, to protest peacefully, and make our voices heard. I understand that's America but there is no place on any campus in America, any place in America for antisemitism or hate speeches or threats of violence of any kind,” said Biden.

Biden’s statement came as thousands of students at US universities demonstrated against the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

On May 1, the US House of Representatives passed a bipartisan antisemitism awareness bill to combat antisemitism on college campuses.

Last year the White House launched a national strategy to prevent antisemitism from spreading across the nation. The Biden administration is expected to soon announce additional measures aimed at curbing antisemitism on American school campuses.
