(VOVWORLD) - President Luong Cuong urged relevant agencies to closely follow and effectively implement directives from the Politburo, Secretariat, National Assembly, Government, and General Secretary on defense, security, and foreign affairs.

He was speaking while presiding over the 6th session of the National Defence and Security Council in Hanoi on Monday, which was also attended by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man.
The Council discussed its recent activities in defense, security, and foreign affairs, assessed recent task performance, and discussed the agenda for its next meeting.
President Cuong said that in the time to come it will be essential to closely monitor, grasp, study, analyze, evaluate, and forecast the global, regional, and domestic situation, particularly emerging strategic issues impacting Vietnam's defense and security.
A proactive approach will deliver timely advice to the Party and State on policies and measures and avoid the risks of passivity, he noted.
