(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem took the lead at the Grandmaster Triathlon in the Classical Biel International Chess Festival 2023, which was held in Switzerland on Wednesday.

Despite using black pieces, Liem convincingly beat top seed Yu Yangyi, whilst the remaining three games ended as draws.
Former co-leaders David Navara and Vincent Keymer slipped to a shared second place, trailing Vietnamese frontrunner Quang Liem by two points.
The Vietnamese player scored five points in rapid, 8.5 points in blitz, and 19 points in standard, accumulating a total of 32.5 points.
This marks the second consecutive time the Vietnamese grandmaster, Elo 2,728, has won the Biel Grandmaster Triathlon title.
Liem received a cash prize of 11,000 USD for his championship. In the upcoming rankings of the International Chess Federation (FIDE), the grandmaster will have new Elo rating of 2,740.
His teammate, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son finished in ninth place, in the standard chess category, with a total of six points from nine games.
Quang Liem will continue to compete in the FIDE World Cup 2023, scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 25 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
