(VOVWORLD) - The Coast Guard Region 2 Command on Wednesday held a conference in Da Nang city to review its recent campaign to stop illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing by local vessels.

The campaign ran from October 15 to December 2, with support from local authorities and military commands in Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, and Da Nang, along with Border Guard Flotilla 48. In one and a half month, 247 outreach sessions on IUU prevention were held, reaching thousands of residents, boat owners, and fishermen.
Coast Guard Region 2 Command also deployed 23 vessels for patrol and enforcement in assigned waters. Officers checked 306 fishing boats, issued administrative penalties to 87 of them, and detained two vessels for serious IUU violations. Two other boats showing signs of violations were handed over to the authorities for further investigation.
