Russia approves law suspending INF treaty

(VOVWORLD) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a bill to formalize its departure from the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces treaty with the US, said an article published Wednesday on the Russian government’s official website.

Russia said it will take retaliatory military actions against NATO’s threats relating to Moscow’s withdrawal from the treaty.

According to the TASS News Agency, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the US is trying to mislead the public by describing its withdrawal from the INF treaty as a political-military measure to retaliate against Russia and Russia needs to be prepared.

The bill was passed by Russia’s State Duma in June, a month after being submitted by President Putin.
