Russia, Ukraine continue exchange of soldier remains and prisoners
(VOVWORLD) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday that Ukraine will continue to promote prisoner exchanges with Russia, emphasizing that full implementation of humanitarian agreements will facilitate international efforts to end the conflict, which has lasted more than three years.
Zelensky made the statement amid ongoing disputes between Russia and Ukraine regarding the exchange of prisoners of war and soldiers' bodies.
Russian authorities on Saturday reported that Ukraine had unexpectedly postponed indefinitely the reception of soldier remains and prisoner exchanges.
Ukraine has denied the claims. Russia has delivered the first batch of 1,212 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers to the border exchange point pursuant to the Istanbul accords.
Russia affirmed its readiness to implement the agreement.
