Lavrov said Russia wants to cooperate with the US in cyber security and restore contacts between the 2 countries’ agencies. Secretary Tillerson, on his first visit to Russia in his current role, said there is a low level of trust between the US and Russia and the world's two powers cannot have this kind of relationship. He said Russia and the United States agreed to set up a working group to try to mend their battered ties. On the Syrian issue, Foreign Minister Lavrov said President Vladimir Putin was ready to restore an air safety agreement covering Syria which it had suspended after last week's US missile strikes on Syria. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson insisted that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad must eventually relinquish power, a position starkly at odds with Moscow. Tillerson said the US has conclusive facts that indicated a recent chemical attack in Syria was "planned" and "directed and executed by Syrian regime forces". But he added that Moscow and Washington agreed to continue cooperating to try to find a political solution for Syria. Lavrov said toppling the Syrian government is not an option and a political process has to be allowed to play out. He also said that Moscow and Washington broadly agreed that the only solution to a brewing crisis over North Korea was via a political solution. Tillerson said the Ukrainian issue will continue to be a barrier for US-Russia ties until the Minsk agreement is fully implemented.
