South Korea insists no war on Korean peninsula

(VOVWORLD) -South Korean President Moon Jae-in promised on Thursday there "will be no war on the Korean peninsula ever again." Moon told a news conference to mark his 100th day in office that US and South Korean policies are aligned on the North Korea issue.

He said US President Donald Trump had assured South Korea he would consult with them before making any military decisions regarding the North.

Russian special envoy to the UN Vassily Nebenzya on Wednesday urged the US and South Korea to resize joint military drills in order to reduce tension on the Korean peninsula. A spokesman for the US State Department said Washington and Seoul will conduct the Ulchi Freedom Guardian drill as scheduled on August 21.
