(VOVWORLD) - The World Health Organization said on Tuesday that the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron does not cause more severe disease than the original Omicron.

New research from South Korea shows that Omicron causes less severe illness or death than the Delta.
The number of global infections decreased 21% last week with more than 12 million new cases. It’s the third consecutive week of COVID-19 decreasing globally, according to the WHO.
The number of deaths from COVID-19 also decreased by 8% to about 67,000 cases worldwide last week.
Currently, Omicron remains the dominant variant globally, accounting for more than 99% of cases while the Delta variant accounts for less than 1%.
