State news agency SANA said that the Syrian government will end clashes in Aleppo for humanitarian reasons. Meanwhile the opposition High Negotiations Committee on Saturday said it had yet to receive "the official text" of the agreement.
The deal agreed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry after a 13-hour negotiation in Geneva. It calls for a halt to fighting across Syria and increased humanitarian aid for Aleppo. The ceasefire would come into force September 12, the first day of the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha.
Egypt welcomed the new ceasefire and called on all parties to comply with the deal. The UK and France urged relevant parties of Syria’s crisis to end violence and fully implement their obligations.
