Thai PM announces outcomes of 34th ASEAN Summit

(VOVWORLD) - ASEAN leaders have adopted several important agreements to build a peaceful, stable region to benefit ASEAN people, said Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha at an international press conference in Bangkok on Sunday to announce the outcomes of the recent 34th ASEAN Summit.

PM Chan-ocha said the Summit approved a “Bangkok Declaration on Combating Marine Debris in the ASEAN Region”, showing ASEAN’s commitment to the fight against plastic pollution in the ocean. Participants highlighted the importance of enhancing regional economic power and agreed to conclude negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership later this year.

The Thai PM said ASEAN leaders approved a Statement on the ASEAN Culture Year 2019 and the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific and supported ASEAN’s initiative to host the World Cup 2034. The 35th ASEAN Summit and related meetings will be held this November.
