Thailand, Cambodia sign ceasefire deal
(VOVWORLD) -Thailand and Cambodia on Saturday signed a ceasefire agreement aimed at restoring stability, allowing civilians living around the border area to return home, and preventing further escalation of conflict.

General Natthaphon Narkphanit, Minister of Defense of Thailand, and General Tea Seiha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Cambodia, representing the two countries, signed the deal at the Ban Phakkad border crossing in Chanthaburi province of Thailand.
General Natthaphon, Chairman of the Secretariat of the Joint Border Committee (GBC) of Thailand, said that as the agreement is signed, the situation will be monitored for 72 hours and the two sides will discuss the details afterward depending on the situation. Thai armed forces have been assigned the task and are capable of controlling 99% of the conflict zone.
Earlier, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said a 72-hour ceasefire is a condition put forward by Bangkok for Phnom Penh’s acceptance.
