Tra Vinh, Soc Trang host Ngo boat race to celebrate Ok Om Bok festival

(VOVWORLD) - The expanded Ngo boat racing tournament to celebrate the 2023 Ok Om Bok Festival of the Khmer people took place in Tra Vinh city on Saturday and Sunday, involving 9 teams from Tra Vinh province and a guest team from neighboring Vinh Long province.

The championship trophy was won by the team from Cang Long district, Tra Vinh province.

“Many teams in the region participated in this year’s festival, which honors and preserves the cultural identity of the Khmer ethnic minority,” Le Van Han, Chairman of the Tra Vinh provincial People's Committee, said.

On this occasion, the Ao BA Om national historical and cultural relic site in Tra Vinh hosted exhibitions, arts, and sports activities as part of the  2023 Tourism and Southern Food Festival which ended on Monday.

Meanwhile, 4,000 rowers from several Mekong Delta provinces competed in the Ngo boat racing tournament of the Khmer people in Soc Trang province on Sunday.

The festival was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage last year by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
