Tributes paid to heroes, martyrs nationwide

(VOVWORLD) -Local authorities and people across Vietnam have paid tribute to heroes and martyrs on the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day.

The youth union in Cao Bang province on Friday offered incenses and flowers, and lit candles in memory of fallen soldiers at local cemeteries and memorial sites.

Ms. Ly Thu Hien, Youth Union secretary of Cao Bang Ethnic Boarding High School, said: "I myself have participated in lighting memorial candles many times. Every single time, I am filled with emotion and gratitude for the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our nation."

The same day, martyrs’ cemeteries in many provinces and cities of Vietnam were lit up with memorial candles by the local youth unions. On this occasion, gifts have been given to families of fallen soldiers. 

This week, Can Tho city’s Youth Union of all levels have visited and offered 650 gifts to Vietnamese Heroic Mother, policy beneficiary families, and revolution contributors. More than 1,300 scholarships have been awarded to students in difficult circumstances. More than 3,500 policy beneficiary families have received free medicine. 

In Gia Lai province, local authorities of 17 districts, towns, and cities have given 14,000 USD worth of gifts to families of war invalids, martyrs, and those who rendered a great service to the nation.

Also on Saturday, at Gac Ma Soldiers' Memorial Site, Khanh Hoa province, hundreds of people came to offer incense and flowers to commemorate 64 officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Navy, who died while protecting the Fatherland's seas and islands on March 14, 1988. Visitors looked at memorabilia of martyrs and listened to explanations about the fighting to protect Vietnam’s sovereignty in the Truong Sa archipelago.
