(VOVWORLD) - US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he could meet Russian President Vladimir Putin very soon for talks on ending the fighting in Ukraine.
Trump said the meeting will take place in Saudi Arabia but didn’t mention a specific time.
He said he is staying in close contact with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who will be in Saudi Arabia on Monday to talk to leaders there about organizing a summit.
“We're moving along to try to get peace with Russia and Ukraine and we're working very hard on it. It's a war that should have never started,” said Trump.
Secretary Rubio, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, and Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff, will be in Saudi Arabia for negotiations with Russia.
A Ukrainian delegation led by First Deputy Prime Minister and Economic Minister Yulia Svyrydenko arrived in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to prepare for President Zelensky’s arrival.
