(VOVworld) – More than 40,000 people have been detained in Turkey in investigations related to last month's failed coup and around half of those have been formally arrested.

In a speech broadcast live on television on Wednesday, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that 79,900 people had been removed from public duty in post coup purges of the military, police, civil service and judiciary.He also said 4,260 companies and institutions with links to the US-based cleric Fethullah Gulen have been shut.
The Turkish Journalists’ Association said police have detained 24 employees of the daily Ozgur Gudem, a pro-Kurdish newspaper, after a court ordered its closure for allegedly engaging in terrorist propaganda.
