UN Under-Secretary-General Jeffrey Feltman urges Israel and Palestine to resume peace talks. |
Addressing the UN Security Council, Feltman said the situation in the Gaza strip has been getting worse since Israel-Palestine peace talks broke down last April. He said a search for 3 Israeli students abducted two weeks ago continues and that Israel’s new settlements in the Gaza strip and its military response to rocket attacks from Palestinian gunmen undermine stability in the Gaza strip.
Regarding the situation in the West Bank, Feltman said the number of Palestinians arrested during Israel’s search efforts has increased to 928. He said Israeli attacks on Palestinian buildings and settlements and the number of illegal Israeli settlements is rising and that both sides are responsible for restoring peace talks.
