(VOVworld)- UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon called on member countries to exert their arms control efforts, especially monitoring fire-arms which can exacerbate armed conflicts, during the UN Security Council’s open debate on Small Arms and Light Weapons on Wednesday.
Ban said that preventing supply sources of illegal weapons meant stopping crime and preventing armed groups and extremists from committing crimes.

Ban urged member states to sign the Arms Trade Treaty which stipulates that weapon exports will not supply conflicts.
