The two leaders agreed to ensure bilateral co-operation during talks between the P5+1 and Iran. Obama insisted on maintaining their communication and co-operation to make sure that North Korea will fulfil its nuclear pledges.
Amid rising tension in the Asia-Pacific, Obama said the White House’s guidelines on improving bilateral ties were aimed at settling increasing disputes constructively. He hoped for another meeting with Xi on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation forum, which is scheduled for next November in China.
The telephone call followed the 6th US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue, which ended last week without any agreement on several issues, including cyber security and maritime disputes. Differences between the US and China over settling conflicts in the East Sea and the East China Sea still persist, despite the White House saying that the dialogue had achieved “important progress”.
