US-China trade talks resume in London

(VOVWORLD) - Top US and Chinese officials began a new round of trade talks in London on Tuesday, the first use of their bilateral economic and trade consultation mechanism since a preliminary deal was agreed in Geneva last month.

The US side was led at the talks by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. The Chinese side was led by Vice Premier He Lifeng.

The talks, coming just days after President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping shared their first phone call since Trump returned to office, hope to build on the 90-day trade truce to lower tariffs agreed in Geneva, which didn’t settle major differences between the two sides.
