(VOVWORLD) - The US military said Monday that no US forces were injured during a brief firefight that broke out at one gate leading into Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport, which killed one Afghan soldier and injured several others.

US Vice President Kamala Harris said Washington is singularly focused on evacuating American citizens, Afghans who worked with the US, and vulnerable Afghans. At a press conference during her visit to Singapore, Harris said the Biden administration has reduced personnel at the American Embassy in Kabul, and evacuated thousands of people.
Foreign Ministers of NATO members issued a joint statement on Afghanistan on Monday, which said that any future Afghan government must honor Afghanistan’s international obligations. The statement called for an immediate end to violence, adherence to international norms and standards on human rights, and to international humanitarian law in all circumstances.
According to the statement, NATO’s immediate task is to meet its commitment to safely evacuate its citizens and at-risk Afghanis, particularly those who have assisted NATO efforts in Afghanistan.
