(VOVWORLD) - The Trump administration on Tuesday ordered its missions abroad to temporarily halt scheduling new visa interviews for foreign students.
According to Bloomberg, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered US embassies worldwide to stop scheduling interviews for student visas as the Trump administration weighs stricter vetting of applicants’ social-media profiles. The directive was laid out in a cable sent to diplomats worldwide on Tuesday.
The US government has implemented social media screening requirements targeting students suspected of participating in protests against Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.
