Mr. Lam applauded President Donald Trump's efforts to promote the peaceful resolution of conflicts around the world, and said Vietnam is ready to play an active role in finding solutions to regional and global conflicts.

Secretary Hegseth said the US values its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and supports a strong, independent, and prosperous Vietnam.

The US wants to strengthen strategic cooperation at both the bilateral and regional level, particularly in transnational crime prevention, maritime security, humanitarian assistance, officer training, UN peacekeeping, and disaster response, he said.

Mr. Hegseth said the US will continue to support Vietnam in improving its capacity, modernizing its defense industry, and expanding cooperation programs to train high-quality human resources.

President Cuong proposed a visit to Vietnam soon by President Trump, which, he said, would be a new milestone in bilateral relations and a driving force to advance strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides expressed support for ASEAN’s stance on the East Sea, particularly the principles of ensuring freedom and safety of navigation and overflight and resolving disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law.
