Vietnam asks IMO to prioritize sailors for COVID-19 vaccinations

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam has asked the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to prioritize COVID-19 vaccinations for sailors regardless of their nationality.

A letter was sent by Nguyen Xuan Sang, Director of the Vietnam Maritime Administration and Deputy Secretary-General of the IMO Vietnam, to IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim regarding initiatives to ensure the safety of sailors amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sang proposed that IMO member countries include maritime workers on their priority lists for COVID-19 vaccinations, administering the vaccines to sailors and maritime workers on vessels that dock at ports under their management.

The proposal will be discussed at the 103rd meeting of the IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee, slated for May 5.
