Vietnam calls on US investors to engage in its large-scale infrastructure projects

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam-US diplomatic relationship has flourished over the past nearly 30 years, thanks in part to the contributions by their businesses, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 2024 US-Vietnam Business Summit on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Chinh said Vietnam is working to improve its business environment to align with international practices, prepare necessary conditions and facilitate opportunities for foreign investors, including those from the US, he said.

Prime Minister Chinh called on the US to remove certain barriers and restrictions against Vietnam, towards recognizing its market economy status, thereby creating favorable conditions for both countries and their businesses to cooperate and develop. He emphasized businesses’ role in unlocking the unlimited potential of the two countries’ cooperation and urged US businesses to focus on developing larger-scale investment, more impactful projects.

He said, "We call on the US to assist Vietnam with capital, technology, management, and human-resource training to implement large projects. We also invite investors to participate in large-scale initiatives such as establishing international financial centers in Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, constructing the North-South high-speed railway and expressways, nuclear power plants, high-speed railway systems connecting countries in ASEAN and the region, systems of large-scale airports, seaports, and clean energy projects. We are also building a national-level data center for international network connectivity, and most notably, exploring the critical domains: space, maritime, and underground."

In his virtual remark to the summit, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted that the cooperation between the two countries and the partnership between their businesses are thriving, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples.

"We are expanding inclusive economic opportunities in both of our countries. In just over a decade, trade between the United States and Vietnam has quadrupled, from 30 billion USD to over 120 billion. Together, we’ve launched new initiatives to ensure more communities benefit from all this economic dynamism," Blinken said.
