Vietnam sent two vessles of the Coast Guard Region 1 High Command to the inspection, which also saw the engagement of two vessels under the Nan Hai branch of the China Coast Guard.
This was the 17th and also the last joint inspection in the implementation of the two governments’ fisheries cooperation agreement, which was inked and took effect in 2006. This year’s inspection covered nine locations in the joint fishing area in the Gulf of Tonkin. During the work, the two sides held talks to discuss the inspection plan, examined fishing boats, and provided fishermen with information about regulations on activities and conduct at sea. They also organized a review meeting to assess the inspection. Sen. Lt. Col. Luong Cao Khai, Vice Commander of the Coast Guard Region 1 and head of Vietnam’s joint inspection force, said the activity attained the set targets and requirements. It aimed to improve coordination in implementing the agreement on joint inspection regulations of the Vietnamese and Chinese coast guard forces, thereby helping develop the countries’ friendly neighborliness, traditional cooperation and mutual understanding; maintain a peaceful and stable environment; and create a friendly atmosphere in the close-knit relations between the coast guards and peoples of Vietnam and China.
