On Wednesday, both sides held talks in a Vietnamese coastguard ship to agree on methods and plans of joint oversight. From Wednesday to Friday, they will patrol 9 points in the common fishing ground and hold an exchange program. This is the 17th joint patrol of Vietnamese and Chinese coastguard since the Vietnam-China Agreement on Fishery Cooperation in the Gulf of Tonkin took effect in 2006. Under the agreement, both sides established a common fishing ground of 33,500 square km and a transition area with 4 years of validity time.
