According to a report released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on Thursday, Vietnam is among the middle-income economies that have risen the fastest in the GII ranking since 2013, along with China, Turkey, India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Iran, and Morocco.
For 14 years in a row, Vietnam has achieved innovation results higher than its level of development, demonstrating effectiveness in converting resources into innovation.
In his online speech on this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reiterated Vietnam's view that innovation must foster peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world, saying Vietnam opposes innovation that serves war or unfair competition and negatively impacts people's lives.
He said innovation should make people the center and the subject so people can truly benefit from the fruits of innovation.
He urged rich countries, developed countries, and countries with better resources to assist developing and poor countries with institution building, financing, quality workforce training, and transfer of advanced technology and smart governance practices.
The PM said Vietnam considers education, training, science and technology its top national priorities, with innovation serving as a driving force, resource, and goal for national construction and development.
PM Chinh said Vietnam appreciates the help and cooperation of international organizations like the WIPO in promoting innovation for Vietnam's rapid and sustainable development.
WIPO Director General Darren Tang applauded Vietnam’s commitment to sci-tech, innovation, and intellectual property.
