At the annual Vietnam Energy Forum held by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Hanoi on Thursday, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Hoang Quoc Vuong, said that power shortages may begin right in the early years of that period, with severe deficiencies predicted for 2022: “We are likely to face power shortages from 2021 to 2023, while electrical load growth rate could be higher than originally forecasted. The electrical load growth rate is estimated at some 9% from now to 2025, and 8% thereafter. However, stronger economic development will result in higher power demand. If electric power plant projects, especially those in major gas-fueled power complexes of O Mon, Dung Quat and Chu Lai, lag behind the set deadline, the country will experience a desperate shortage of electricity”
