Vietnam embraces international solidarity

(VOVworld) – Vietnam needs a unity of international friends in all stages of development. The statement was agreed by the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations in Hanoi on Monday at a conference to mark 20 years of development of the Union.

In her opening speech, Nguyen Thi Binh, former Vice President and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Peace and Development Foundation, said that by upholding President Ho Chi Minh’s diplomatic ideology, people’s diplomacy has been accelerated and has played a significant role in the struggle for national independence and construction. The trend toward globalization and international integration engenders both cooperation and conflict. As Vietnam strives to become an industrial nation by 2020, people diplomacy assumes greater important."We’re entering a new period with new developments so people diplomacy should uphold past experience while absorbing new lessons. Our biggest lesson is national and international unity, which will forever maintain its value. We must reinforce strong international relations and support for national protection and development," Binh says. 

The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations has established relations with 1,000 partners worldwide. The Union has sent and received tens of thousands of delegations to many countries and chaired thousands of people diplomacy events. In addition to participating in political movements and international dialogues, the Union has helped promote the image of a dynamic and peaceful Vietnam to the world.
