Vietnam, Germany boost law enforcement cooperation

(VOVworld) – Vietnam and Germany want to increase their bilateral law enforcement cooperation, according to a statement released after a meeting on Thursday in Germany between Vietnamese Minister of Public Security Tran Dai Quang and coordinator for the German Intelligence Agency Gunter Heiss.

The two sides agreed to exchange information, experience, visits, and training and implement a coordinated network to combat transnational cyber-crime and terrorism.

Quang briefed Heiss on recent events surrounding China’s illegal deployment of oil rig Haiyang Shiyou -981 in Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf and initiatives by the Vietnam government to bring about a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

Quang urged Germany to raise a stronger voice for justice for the Vietnamese people.

Heiss expressed his steadfast support for Vietnam’s stance of seeking a peaceful solution in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Earlier, Minister Quang paid a courtesy visit to the Vietnamese Embassy in Germany.
