Vietnam, Malaysia tighten cooperation on international issues

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam and Malaysia will increase the bilateral exchange of views and with other ASEAN countries on international issues, including the South China Sea (called the East Sea in Vietnam), according to Friday’s virtual talks between Vietnamese and Malaysian top diplomats.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said Vietnam is committed to facilitating entry of foreign investors, experts, managers and skilled workers to stabilize business and production. He asked Malaysia to offer humane treatment to Vietnamese fishermen caught in Malaysia’s waters, in line with international law and ASEAN’s spirit of solidarity.

Malaysian Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein praised Vietnam’s successful containment of the COVID-19 pandemic and suggested resuming direct flights between the two countries at the earliest possible.

The two officials agreed to will work closely together to organize the ASEAN Summit and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in November.
