Vietnam President, Asia-Pacific leaders close APEC Summit, approve joint statement

(VOVWORLD) -President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, his wife and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation left Thailand for Hanoi on Saturday afternoon, concluding their official visit to Thailand and attendance of the 29th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

On Saturday morning, the APEC Summit ended with the adoption of a joint statement, emphasizing determination to promote cooperation in economic recovery, balanced, sustainable and inclusive growth, and comprehensive connection. The Leaders agreed to hold the 30th APEC Summit in the United States in 2023.

Also on Saturday morning, meeting with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva, President Phuc said that amid global economic volatility, high inflation, slow growth, and food and energy insecurity, Vietnam, the IMF and other countries need to strengthen coordination of policies to effectively deal with these problems.

Georgieva said Vietnam's economy is still a bright spot in terms of growth and stability in the region, adding that the IMF will continue to provide support and advice for Vietnam in economic management and growth model reform.
