Themed “Agriculture, farmers, and sustainable rural development”, the festival features 1,000 booths which introduce rice products and provide event goers with technical instructions. Activities include an announcement of the logo of Vietnam's national rice brand, a rice contest, and an exhibition on Vietnamese rice exports.
Pham Minh Hung from the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, who is also deputy head organizer, said: "Farmers, especially rice growers, face a lot of difficulties in their production. The Vietnam Farmers’ Union, Agriculture Ministry, and Long An’s authorities are trying in part to solve the issues farmers face through the festival."
The rice festival is the top activity of the Vietnam Farmers’ Union, which supports farmers in rice seed selection, farming techniques, and preservation and processing technology.
In the past 10 months, Vietnam exported 5.2 million tons of rice, earning 2.6 billion USD. China is the biggest importer, followed by Indonesia, Iraq, the Philippines and Malaysia.
