(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam Sea and Island Week was launched at a ceremomy in Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province on Friday to mark World Ocean Day 2025.

Themed “Green technology for a sustainable ocean,” the Vietnam Sea and Island Week reflects Vietnam’s strategic orientation of making science, technology, and innovation the central driving forces to harmonize development and conservation, balance marine resource exploitation with the proactive, modern, and effective conservation.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Le Minh Ngan said that this year’s event conveys a clear message about the pioneering role of technology in modern ocean governance, from marine environmental monitoring sensor systems and big data applications to digital marine spatial planning, fisheries management, and coastal disaster forecasting.

“The theme ‘Green technology for a sustainable ocean’ carries hopes for a green revolution at sea. It’s necessary to develop a new ocean economy based on knowledge, technology, and innovation for sustainable seafood production and the protection of fragile marine ecosystems.”
World Ocean Day 2025’s theme “Wonder: Sustaining what sustains us” is being celebrated nationwide in Vietnam.
