Vietnam sends diplomatic note protesting China’s unilateral fishing ban in the East Sea

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has communicated with the Chinese Embassy in Hanoi and formally delivered a diplomatic note protesting China’s recent unilateral imposition of a fishing ban in the East Sea, said the Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang at a regular press conference on Thursday.

Hang said: "Vietnam’s position on China’s fishing ban in the East Sea remains clear and consistent, and has been reiterated on multiple occasions. Vietnam demands that China respects Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracel) Archipelago, as well as its sovereign rights and jurisdiction over maritime zones, established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS, respect the rights of Vietnamese fishermen to conduct legal fishing activities within Vietnam’s waters and in areas beyond national jurisdiction, in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 UNCLOS, refrain from actions that would complicate the situation, and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, and rule-based order at sea in the East Sea."
