Vietnam to join important initiatives at COP28

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam is set to participate in important initiatives at the 3-day 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, starting Thursday in the UAE.

More than 130 heads of states and government leaders, along with 70,000 delegates from 197 countries, non-governmental organisations, businesses, and youth groups, will attend the conference. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will lead the Vietnamese delegation.

Vietnam will join the Global Cooling Pledge and an initiative to implement Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Vietnam’s viewpoint is that climate change response must be carried out based on the principle of equity and justice, a global people-based approach, comprehensive institutions, efficient and effective policies and laws, science, technology, innovation, maximised internal strength, and international cooperation.

At this year's conference, Vietnam will introduce its own climate change response and launch a resource mobilisation plan for implementating the Political Declaration on establishing a Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), calling on partners to help Vietnam realise its climate change response commitments and invest in energy transition projects to secure a green transition and a circular, low-carbon economy.
